| Featured artifact: Leather backed chair |
| The donor noted "[The] Chair seat and back [were] found in a German dugout General Headquarters on the north side of the hill at Varrennes, Argonne. Silver headed tacks mounted these pieces. The dugouts at Varrennes were the product of four years of occupation and were wonderfully complete in their convenience and fixtures, with sewer, electric light and power. Varrennes is the village in which Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette were apprehended on their attempted flight to Germany [in 1791]."
This chair was constructed in Benton County during the late 1930s as a gift to the donor from his wife using the leather components he had collected. |
