Home Is Where The Art Is  

Benton County Historical Society presents Home Is Where The Art Is, an exhibition of decorative art from the Museum's vast collection. The exhibition will be open June 19 through August 22, 2009.

In the decorative arts, artists enrich our environment by embellishing everyday household objects. Decorative arts including silver, glass, ceramics, textiles and furniture are the emphasis of the exhibition. Many of the historic objects on display came to BCHS from the Horner Museum in Corvallis and have not been seen publicly for decades.

Highlights of the exhibition will include artifacts from Champoeg and Corvallis communities dating to the 1840s, Victorian era home furnishings, and textiles, glass, china, and wood carvings from around the world. A few examples from the exhibition are shown below.

The Benton County Historical Society is a nonprofit corporation that operates museum facilities for the preservation of history and culture.  Its mission is to:

  1. Preserve the material and intellectual culture of Benton County, Oregon, by acquiring and caring for significant collections that illustrate and interpret the history of the area and its relationship to the world;
  2. Enrich people's lives through exhibitions and educational programs.
