Featured quilt: Nine Patch Quilt
Accession number H11281

Description of Top
Scrap double nine patch quilt (99 ¼" x 97 ¼") in brown, green, pink, and blue with pink border. Quilt top is cotton. Fabric prints include check, dot, floral, stripe, geometric, plaid, conversation prints, paisley, and solid. Structure consists of 81 alternating blocks: 41 pieced, 40 plain. Set is 9 x 9. Single border on four sides (4 7/8" x 4 3/8" x 4 7/8" x 4 5/8").

Quilt Back
Muslin in three pieces.

Quilting
Hand quilted, @ 8 stitches per inch, medium quantity and fineness. Cross-hatch in alternate blocks; diagonal quilting in pieced blocks.

Finishing
Straight edges, square corners. Self bound, backing brought to front.

Condition
Minimal damage, stains overall, small tear on border.

Miscellaneous
Intriguing fabrics, some nine patch blocks use same fabrics, some different fabrics. Intriguing pink basket weave fabric. Susan Cockrell stated: "I feel that the pieced top is old, and was mounted and quilted probably in this 20th century."
